“Metaphorical Garden”
The Thai CC Tower, located in the central business district of Bangkok, overlooks a green area divided by the Blue Elephant Cooking School and Restaurant, a historic building, and vehicle passages. Through studying the surrounding environment and available space, it was discovered that the site shares similarities with ancient Chinese courtyard residences, the "Siheyuan." Traditional Siheyuan features a central courtyard with surrounding houses. This site is similarly flanked by towering buildings and encircled by the Surasak BTS Skytrain station on four sides.

The welcoming courtyard faces the main road, serving as a front garden, an entrance reception, a passage to the historic building, and the main courtyard extending towards the Thai CC Tower. The courtyard acts as a shared space, similar to the public area in a "Siheyuan" where residents gather and socialize. Likewise, we envisioned the garden as a gathering point filled with greenery, serving as a visual respite and a place for relaxation for nearby employees, residents, and Skytrain commuters.

The site pays homage to Chinese culture, where Feng Shui plays a vital role in the spatial planning design. In Feng Shui thought, water is typically considered an indispensable element, especially in the area in front of the house. However, due to restrictions on water features in public spaces, we substituted the expression of "water." We contemplated how water can act as a medium to promote and ultimately shape landscape art. The courtyard, with the Thai CC Tower as the backdrop, is harmoniously composed of hardscape and softscape, resembling a Chinese landscape painting.

Through a minimalist design approach, the shape of water is symbolically designed as raindrops on a calm surface. Circular ripples, composed of neatly trimmed shrubs, sculptural trees, and concrete curbs, flow throughout the garden. As night falls, strip lighting hidden within the curbs emits a soft glow to highlight the carefully placed Feng Shui stones, while tall trees are bathed in strategically positioned uplighting.
