空间与传统的对话：该项目最令人瞩目的亮点在于其对北京四合院传统居住模式的创新性回应。设计师没有简单地复制，而是深入挖掘了四合院的精髓——庭院的开放性和集体性，并以此为基础，探索了如何在有限的空间内，实现居住的私密性与公共性之间的平衡。通过插入式结构和屋顶改造，设计师巧妙地模糊了室内外、新旧建筑的界限，将自然光线、空气和景观引入室内，创造出一种既传统又现代、既独立又开放的居住体验。这种设计手法是对传统建筑的尊重与创新，赋予了四合院新的生命力。

材料与结构的对比：项目的精髓还体现在材料和结构的巧妙运用。设计师通过对比强烈的材料，如白色水磨石和蓝色砖块，黑白与粗糙，光滑与复杂，将新建空间与原有建筑区分开来，形成视觉上的张力与对比。同时，悬挂式“鸽子笼”采用钢结构建造，与原建筑的砖木结构在结构上分离，这种清晰的结构关系不仅保留了原建筑的特色，还揭示了建筑的演变过程。这种结构和材料的对比，强化了新旧建筑之间的对话，也体现了设计师对空间、材料和结构的深刻理解。这种手法使得建筑本身成为一个叙事载体，讲述着历史的变迁与现代的融合。

功能与体验的融合：除了空间和材料的创新，该项目在功能设计上也体现了对居住体验的关注。设计师巧妙地在有限空间内，实现了居住的私密性与公共性的平衡，满足了多住户的需求。公共客厅空间提供了社交和聚餐的场所，而独立的居住单元则保证了每个人的隐私。此外，“鸽子笼”的设计，不仅提供了额外的空间，更重要的是创造了一个与自然对话的独立空间，模糊了室内与室外的界限，提供了独特的体验。这种功能与体验的融合，使得建筑不仅仅是一个居住的场所，更是一个激发灵感、促进交流和满足精神需求的场所，充分体现了以人为本的设计理念。

建筑师提供的文字描述住宅。没有层级关系。住在同一四合院里的不同家庭共享同一个庭院和小巷。这些公共空间确实拉近了居民的距离，但也剥夺了居民的隐私。甚至许多基本生活需求也无法得到保证。
Text description provided by the architects. The quadrangle courtyard house in Beijing is the most typical form of northern residential architecture in Beijing. After more than 800 years of development, it has finally formed a strict spatial settlement. After the liberation, it gradually became a "social" residence. There was no hierarchical connection. Different families living in the same courtyard house shared the same courtyard and alley. These public spaces did indeed bring residents closer together, but they also deprived residents of their privacy. Even many basic living needs could not be guaranteed.

该项目是业主和设计师共同探索的北京四合院新型居住模式。虽然项目面积不大，但业主希望该项目仍能同时容纳自己和朋友居住。即使是额外的房间也可以长期出租。就像《老友记》中的“团体生活”一样，它需要一个公共客厅空间，每个人都可以聚集在一起吃饭，但也有自己的生活单元。
This project is a joint exploration by the owner and the designer of a new living model for Beijing's quadrangle courtyard houses. Although the project area is not large, the owner hopes that the project can still accommodate both himself and his friends to live at the same time. Even the extra rooms can be rented out for a long time. Just like the "group living" in Friends, it requires a public living room space where everyone can gather and have meals together, but also have their own living units.

待翻修的建筑是一座标准的单入口四合院。该项目位于天桥的竹子营胡同。通过插入式结构和屋顶，设计模糊了原始庭院、内部和外部之间的界限。新建的庭院与室内空间融为一体，将自然风光、充足的空气和自然光线带入室内。
The building to be renovated is a standard one-entrance quadrangle courtyard house. The project is located in Chuziying Hutong, Tianqiao. Through the inserted structure and roof, the design blurs the boundaries between the original courtyard, interior and exterior. The newly created courtyard integrates with the interior space, bringing natural scenery, abundant air and natural light into the interior.

The design divides the original courtyard space and lifts it up. From the eaves, a "pigeon cage" grows out, breaking through the original roof. The new space set up above this "sea of tiles" is completely free from social attributes and is an independent space for personal dialogue with nature. Pushing open the "skylight" is like climbing onto the roof of the house, but you are still inside. Part of the original building's tiled roof also extends into the interior. Just like the place where Li Tiantian and Guan Qiaohong met in "Devils on the Doorstep", the roof of a Beijing quadrangle courtyard house is one of the few places within the city walls that offer freedom, romance and the ability to clear one's mind.

新建的“鸽子笼”是放置在屋顶上的纯几何形状。它在视觉上与原始屋顶交织在一起，蓝色砖砌的山墙和屋檐瓦片被包裹在室内。屋顶上的天窗玻璃配有半透明遮阳帘，将阳光过滤成柔和的光线。这一系列处理模糊了室内和室外空间之间的界限，对比并统一了现代和传统建筑，并在明亮和温暖的氛围之间形成了对比。新旧之间的关系变得模糊不清。悬挂式“鸽笼”采用钢结构建造，在结构上与主楼的砖木结构分开。清晰的结构关系使原始的木结构得以暴露。
The newly built "pigeon cage" is a pure geometric form placed on the roof. It visually interweaves with the original roof, and the blue brick gable and eave tiles are wrapped into the interior. The skylight glass on the roof is equipped with semi-transparent shading curtains, filtering the sunlight into a softer light. This series of treatments blurs the boundaries between indoor and outdoor spaces, contrasts and unites modern and traditional architecture, and creates a contrast between bright and warm atmospheres. The relationship between new and old becomes ambiguous. The suspended "pigeon cage" is built with steel structure and is structurally separated from the brick and wood structure of the main building. The clear structural relationship allows the original wooden structure to be exposed.

餐厅吧台的位置横跨主楼的西厅和西翼厅。该设计通过材料在视觉上将新建的翼楼与现有的主楼区分开来。白色水磨石和蓝色砖块将空间分为两部分。黑白、光滑与粗糙、简单与复杂在高度、纹理、立面材料和空间差异上形成对比。
The position of the dining bar counter spans the west room of the main house and the west wing room. The design visually distinguishes the newly built wing room from the existing main house through materials. White terrazzo and blue bricks divide the space into two parts. Black and white, smooth and rough, simple and complex create contrasts in height, texture, facade materials and spatial differentiation.n.
